Uruguay's legislature voted overwhelmingly on Wednesday to legalize gay marriage. The country's president is expected to put the law into effect with in 10 days. There’s even video showcasing the moment it happened, and it will give you chills. This makes Uruguay the 12th country in the world to pass marriage equality. Way to go Uruguay, and come on, America. I mean, Uruguay has their stuff together, and we don’t even know where Uruguay is on a map!

Bighorns Back Fundraiser to Keep Youth Safe Haven Open
Project Solution, a Reno based volunteer-run nonprofit which empowers homeless and low-income youth, has partnered with NBA D-League Team Reno Bighorns to hold an open house fundraiser on April third.
Titled “Project Bighorns”, this event from six to eight pm will feature basketball, art, dance, hip-hop and trophies with a $10 entrance fee, with all proceeds going to keep Project Solution, a safe haven open for homeless and at-risk kids, according to Project Solution’s Executive Director Palkin Zed.
The focus of the event will be three (3) 8-minute 3-on-3 games by the youth from Project Solution showcased for the Reno Bighorns. Tournament pre-qualifier will be held on March 23. Event will also showcase and highlight the talent, skills and artistic abilities of the Project Solution kids. Various area celebrities, business leaders and politicians are expected to participate.
Project Solution is fully operated by volunteers, and with the success of this event, Project Solution hopes to bring in more resources and keep its doors open for at-risk kids, Palkin Zed adds.

The one and only, the goddess of glitter herself, Ke$ha, has a brand new docu-series premiering on MTV in April called "My Crazy Beautiful Life". The upcoming show offers an authentic glimpse into the 25-year-old pop phenomenon's day-to-day life. I was initially excited about this, I mean, who doesn't love the over-the-top, boundary-pushing Ke$ha? But then I watched the official promo (below)...and call me a prude, but this show seems a little too ostentatious, even for me. It makes me wonder, is Ke$ha always this crazy, or is she just showing off because the cameras are on? I asked my friend Jetson, who's Ke$ha's biggest fan, and he said, "If this is a documentary about who she really is, then awesome...but if she's just doing this to act trashy, then I'm not gonna enjoy it." I have to agree with Jetson on this one, even though I'm biased because of my phobia of awkward reality television (I get really uncomfortable watching people make fools of themselves all for the spotlight). What do you think? Do you think the show will be as authentic as it can possibly be, or is it just a publicity stunt? Record mogul and Grammy Award Winner Clive Davis has just released a new memoir, The Soundtrack of My Life, where he reveals many interesting secrets about his life; some of these secrets are a sneak peak to the 'behind-the-scenes' action with artists we all know and love, in this case, the one and only, Miss Kelly Clarkson. You may be Clive Davis, but no one angers our girl, Kelly Clarkson! Apparently, Clive suggests that in one meeting Kelly broke out into "hysterical sobbing" over the song 'Since U Been Gone' - one of Kelly's mega, Grammy-Award-Winning hits. But, according to Kelly, Clive has his details mixed up. Kelly admits that she DID cry in a meeting with him, but it wasn't about what Clive claims it was. In a blog post written yesterday, Kelly explains:
So I just heard Clive Davis is releasing a memoir and spreading false information about me and my music. I refuse to be bullied and I just have to clear up his memory lapses and misinformation for myself and for my fans. It feels like a violation. Growing up is awesome because you learn you don't have to cower to anyone - even Clive Davis.
First, he says I burst into "hysterical sobbing" in his office when he demanded Since You Been Gone be on my album. Not true at all. His stories and songs are mixed up. I did want more guitars added to the original demo and Clive did not. Max, Luke and I still fought for the bigger sound and we prevailed and I couldn't be more proud of the life of that song. I resent him dampening that song in any way.
But, yes, I did cry in his office once. I cried after I played him a song I had written about my life called "Because Of You." I cried because he hated it and told me verbatim that I was a "sh*tty writer who should be grateful for the gifts that he bestows upon me." He continued on about how the song didn't rhyme and how I should just shut up and sing. This was devastating coming from a man who I, as a young girl, considered a musical hero and was so honored to work with.
But I continued to fight for the song and the label relented. And it became a worldwide hit. He didn't include that in the book.
Kelly, girl, you're a strong, independent woman of the 21st century, and I for one am proud of you for having a voice and using it. Whether it was a malicious move on Clive's part, or maybe he's just getting old and senile, you stood up for yourself. As a wise woman once said, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger." Oh, and PS: Clive, unless you're a 13-year-old girl, "The Soundtrack of my Life", is the least imaginative title for a memoir ever.

Isn't Vegas where the stars go when they start to burn out? According to sources, Adele is considering Vegas over a world tour because it would be much easier to be a mom if she's grounded, which makes total sense.
Adele may consider the residency instead of traveling for a world tour.
“Adele is top of the Vegas hit-list and she’s seriously considering it as an option,” a source said, The Star reports. “She wants to get back to performing but doesn’t want to go on the road so soon after becoming a mum. A Vegas residency would mean she could settle with her family and record her third album all at once.”

In recent days, rumors have circulated that Fall Out Boy would be reuniting for a performance on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live,’ but they’re actually gearing up for a full-blown comeback, with a summer tour, a new album, and a new single! Like most classic Fall Out Boy tunes, this one has a ridiculously long title: ‘My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up).’
‘My Songs’ is just as infectious as the emo-pop-punk band’s earlier material, but in a different way. While most of the band’s music revolves around catchy guitar riffs, FOB’s latest is built around a hand-clapping beat and thumping drums. ‘My Songs’ is a natural progression for the group, which hasn’t released any new music since 2008′s ‘Folie a Deux.’
Despite the slight style change, any song with Patrick Stump‘s distinct voice is going to sound like Fall Out Boy. He sings, “The world can’t ever get me on my level / I just gotta get you out the cage, on my own, lover’s rage / God I need a spark to ignite.” We will listen to this track over and over just to hear Stump’s chorus-concluding shriek, “I’m on fire!”
Much has changed in the four years since Fall Out Boy went on hiatus. Pete Wentz had a son with Ashlee Simpson before they divorced in 2011. Stump put out an acclaimed solo album that didn’t succeed commercially. Oh, and rock music isn’t getting played on the radio much anymore, which is perhaps what led the band to modestly title their upcoming album ‘Save Rock and Roll.’
Whether Fall Out Boy’s return will usher in a new era of skinny jeans, asymmetrical haircuts and 15-word song titles remains to be seen, but ‘My Songs’ shows enough promise to get us seriously excited about this comeback.
Oprah Winfrey is facing a lawsuit from a former female executive that claims she lost her job because she became pregnant, according to TMZ.
They report that Carolyn Hommel filed a lawsuit on Friday that states she was hired in 2010 as senior director of scheduling and acquisitions at Oprah's OWN network.
Hommel claims in the suit that she was told she was on-track to become a Vice President, but that changed when she became pregnant.
The executive says that her duties were slowly transferred to a temporary employee and she was excluded from meetings when she returned from leave.
Hommel says that a month after she gave birth, she was dismissed from her job and instructed to re-apply for the Vice President position but was passed over, according to the report.
She also claims that her supervisor, Michael Garner, fabricated a performance review that "made Hommel's job duties and responsibilities appear less 'senior' and therefore not a candidate for the new vice president position."Read the TMZ report.

After 10 months of silence from the singer, Mayer performed live for the first time at a benefit in Bozeman, Montana (where he's been living lately). and his voice still works! Though he says he doesn't have much range right now and full recovery will take months and months. "I'm a 70 year old version of myself", he joked. John took an indefinite break from performing after a granuloma developed on his vocal chords. He had to have two surgeries, cancel a U.S. tour, and remain silent to get better. I am no stranger to our local music scene in Reno,i have seen A LOT of local bands and all are great,then theres those few that stick out. Like Wayward. Well, we've officially reached the halfway mark! The numbers are a little tricky, because the program is actually 25 days, counting the binge and such.
It's weird to be writing to you all from the middle of our experience. There have been ups and downs. Because we don't have that much weight to lose overall (it was recommended that I would need to lose 42 pounds, and Pepper only 22 pounds, to be at our "ideal body weight") we hit plateus rather quickly and that can be discouraging. It messes with your mind to lose so much weight so quickly, and when that 1+ lb/day in the beginning turns into only .5 lbs/day, you start to feel like you should be doing better. But luckily, we have each other, and the incredible staff at A New Me in Reno. They're knowledgable and encouraging.
In the A New Me program book, there's a specific menu and method to use when you've hit a plateau, and guess what...IT WORKS. I've lost a total of 11 pounds; I've gone from 185 to 174 in just 2 weeks! And Pepper has lost 9 pounds - and for women our age, this is a huge accomplishment.
After hitting my body-plateau, and coming out of it, I feel good again and have hit an attitude-plateau, where I can just relax and believe in myself and in the program. It's basically a cleanse, guided by the amazing group at Dr. Lemon's A New Me! Life without gluten, sugar, articifical sweetener, and dairy is actually pretty awesome. Here's a picture of what dinner looks like for me now, and believe it or not, I actually crave it! 4-5 ounces of protein (organic, lean meat shown here, cooked with gluten-free taco seasoning), kale chips (homemade), and organic lettuce with organic cucumbers and oil/vinegar dressing. And don't forget the totally-acceptable and delicious Zevia - Black Cherry! MMmmmMMMmmm!

I recently posted my excited about the upcoming Adam-Levine-Hosting-SNL experience. But, I have to say, I'm a little nervous for this one...mostly because Justin Bieber is so highly scrutinized by his haters, and his performance will be TORN. APART. I mean, can he act? I suppose his entire life is an act because he is a Hollywood entertainer, and those people are never "off". Though not a huge Bieber fan, I support his new adventure and hope that it turns out well!
Well, here we are! Day 7 and we're both down exactly 7 pounds! It hasn't been easy, but it's been a whole lot easier than any other diet I've tried in the past. I think it's because this diet exists within the context of the A NEW ME program, and that makes it so much easier mentally! Instead of thinking: I can't eat carbs, sugar, artificial sweetener, dairy, gluten, etc., I just think about my meals as outlined for me in the program. And I honestly feel great! I don't really notice the calorie deficit, and that's means the hormone is working like it's supposed to. It was around Day 5 that people started 'noticing' and saying something. My pilates instructor was the first person to notice the changes in my body. You can really see it in our faces and waist-line (and in Pep's legs)!
An average day for us meal-wise is:
Early-morning: 2-3 egg whites
Mid-Morning: fruit (usually an apple for me)
Lunch: Meal-replacement shake OR bar (the Chocolate Banana ones from A New Me are DELICIOUS!)
Mid-snack: usually a fruit, but I'm thinking of switching to a vegetable here since I'm noticing a slight change in my daily weight loss
Dinner: 5 oz of chicken breast, with a little bit of olive oil and garlic and broccoli
Snack: KALE CHIPS!!! I'm so addicted! I make them myself and they are DELICIOUS.
As if I needed more reasons to stare at this hottie. Normally I wouldbe skeptical, but I thought his comedic personality really shined as a judge on The Voice, so I think this is gonna be goooood! I mean, it's Adam Levine. Can it really be bad?
Remember the meltdown that Green Day frontman, Billie Joe, had last year at the iHeart Radio Festival? Which then led to the canceling of their tour and his corresponding stint in rehab? Well, he's out, ya'll! And Green Day is ready to get back on the road and resume their tour!

Pepper and I just started the Mix 100.9 20 Pounds in 20 Days, New Year's Weight Loss Challenge with Dr. Lemon's A New Me. We've decided to keep a diary on here for all of our Mixers who are joining the challenge with us, or for anyone thinking about doing it. We've never done anything like this and we want to share our experience with you guys.
For the first two days, you BINGE on as much food as possible. The reason is mostly to prep your body for the impending detox/calorie-cut, but it also had the mental effect of making me want to stop eating! I felt bloated and full and FAT. So when Day 3 (the first day of the new diet) rolled around, I was READY.
For my binge days I ate: DAY 1- (1) Bacon, egg & cheese bagel sandwich from My Favorite Muffin; Coffee with lots of half and half; (2) Chocolate, Peanutbutter Buckeyes; (1) 10 inch Philly Cheese Steak from Capriotti's; (1) 8oz Filet Minon; Garlic Mashed Potatoes; lots of veggies. DAY 2 - (1) Belgian Waffle; Poatoes; Bagel with butter; Bacon; Pork Sliders with a side salad with ranch; cookies; almonds.
Pepper and I went shopping yesterday and finished buying all of our essential vitamins, fruits, veggies, and proteins for the next week. Everything looks delicious. The interesting thing about me is that I LOVE healthy food; I eat it all the time. But, I also love "bad" food. It won't be hard for me to eat all of these deliciously healthy menu items - but my biggest challenge will be learning to say "no" to the other things I love, like chocolate, popcorn, chips, french fries, and pizza. MmmmMmmm, just typing that was difficult.
But I'm honestly excited and ready for A New Me. I've been studying nutrition throughout 2012, but I haven't been applying what I've learned. Like I said, I love healthy food, so it was easy for me last year to start adding things that I was learning about, like having more greens throughout the day. I even started drinking spinach/greek yogurt/berry shakes for breakfast. But what I wasn't able to accomplish in 2012 was removing the things that I know are essentially poison, like gluten, refined sugar, fast food, etc.

I was one of the poor, unfortunate souls who waited in line on Christmas day to see Les Miserables. I waited in line so long that I almost ate my entire medium popcorn before the movie even started. With no munchies to distract me, my attention was very focused on the movie. Anne Hathaway was amaze-balls. But Russell Crowe was so bad that it completely distracted me from the movie! A good, emotional production, ESPECIALLY a musical, is supposed to suck you in, but all I kept thinking was, This was a huge production with a very large budget...they could have casted anyone they wanted, so why did they waste that major role on him?? I just couldn't figure it out, and my attempts to do so kept pulling me right out of the moment and into the theater where all I could think about was my empty basket of popcorn. MmmmMMmm....popcorn.
Lastly, it's not like Lambert isn't qualified to say these things. He's an incredible singer and a very talented entertainer, which is probably why people are freaking out about it. Too bad he wasn't in this movie. God, that would have been amazing. Next time, musical gods, next time.
At Kanye West's concert in Atlantic City last night, he asked the audience to say hello to his baby mama and pointed to Kim. Naturally, Twitter blew up with the "is he serious?" tweets and Kanye's PR team soon confirmed it. Kim Kardashian is indeed having Kanye West's baby. How funny would it be if their kid wanted nothing to do with the spotlight or being famous? That would be hilarious!
1) Be more silent (ironic for a radio DJ, right?) - I tend to react too quickly, or answer things too quickly in conversation. I want to learn to relax and just *chill*...and let there be space............. between............... thoughts.
2) Be more active - I made a rule at the beginning of December 2012 that if my destination was less than 30 minutes by foot (and since I live downtown, most things are), that I had to walk. And if it was more than 30 minutes by foot but less than 30 by bike, then I have to bike. I've already lost 5 pounds just from making that one, simple change. And, I genuinely enjoy the walk! This new life-activity is also forcing me to stick me my third New Year's Resolution, which is to
3) Rush Less - Walking to places has forced me to leave earlier than I normally would, and it's made my life much more peaceful. I would like to arrive earlier and finish things sooner in more areas of my life.
4) Self-Discipline - All of the above are impossible without this little nugget. It's not that I'm a complete loser - I wouldn't be this successful if I possessed absolutely no discipline. HOWEVER...I do struggle with doing things EVERY DAY. I eat everyday; I shower every day; can it really be that much harder to workout every day?
5) Stretch - This is the key to my happiness. I suffer from overly tight muscles, and most areas of my body hurt pretty much all of the time. You would think that this alone would motivate me enough to stretch, but alas...see #4.
6) Become rich and famous - My dream in life. And when it does happen, I promise that I will use my powers for good, give back to my community, and pay off my student loans.
Apparently she beat out Psy, Taylor Swift, the author of "50 Shades of Grey", and the CAST OF TWILIGHT (?!) for the title.

Adele is so much more than a mere phenomenon (ahem...cast of Twilight). Every song that this lady releases is a JAM. And though she didn't release a new album this year, or tour, she still totally deserves this title because she's one of the most amazing artists of our time. So, this post was originally going to be about last week's "VH1's Divas Live" event...but then I saw this picture of the one, Miss Miley Cyrus, on the red carpet with a new 'do.
Holy crap! She looks amazing. If I was 110 pounds and famous, I would DEFINITELY want to rock this dream pixie cut. I would never have expected something like this out of Miley, but she looks so good! She's got the whole fierce-independent-woman-of-the-21st-century thing going for her with this haircut. I dig it. A lot. And Charlize Theron looks fierce no matter what.
Someone had a good weekend! There's been some speculation for awhile now about when Kelly Clarksonwould be getting engaged to Reba McEntire's step son Brandon Blackstock and it finally happened! Kelly broke the news herself on Saturday by tweeting a picture of the ring. Congrats girl!
Who knew Taylor Swift was so versatile? I almost didn't recognize her in the video-thumbnail-preview! I'm also so glad that her next hit song is significantly less annoying than "We are Never Ever Getting Back Together".
"I Knew You Were Trouble" pretty much rocks, and the video is equally intense. My only critique is: Why is T. Swift always trying to be so theatrical? Our Promotions Director here at Wilks Broadcast Group is always screaming, "I WISH SHE WOULD QUIT TALK-SINGING!" And though this song doesn't have quite the extensive talk-singing segments that 'We Are Never..." does, it DOES have a version with an extended "monologue" at the end. Oy.
and I may die from excitement. Drew's contract with Covergirl expires in January and soon after she'll be stocking the shelves of Wal Mart with her new products, simply called "Flower". Well, in a way. They showed up together last night on the red carpet for A Christmas Story: The Musical on Broadway. Yeah that's cute and all, but how do we know they're getting serious? John also brought his DAD! The three of them seemed to get along really well. I'm not bitter at all by the way, if John Mayer is dating anyone but me, I want it to be Katy Perry. I personally love seeing unexpected artist collaborations such as this one. I always wonder, whose idea was it? Was T.I. sitting there one day and was like, "That P!NK chick is kinda fierce...."
After listening to a few of the audio previews, I think I'm most excited about the Andre 3000 collaboration. I thought I even caught a bit of the old-skool Outkast vibe in the entire album. What do you all think??

AWWWW, MAN! Don't you hate it when you lose a little respect for a celebrity that you previously liked because they're clearly making bad choices all of the sudden? According to TMZ, Max George from The Wanted was "the aggressor" in this new fling.
Reasons I'm disappointed:
He's a rising star in an up-and-coming new boy band...and she's Lindsay Lohan.
I hoped/assumed all the boys from The Wanted were gay.
He's probably just doing this for tabloid exposure.
It's working.
I smell an impending duet.
She probably just wants a boyfriend for Christmas so that he has to get her something.
